Begging You Please

Begging You Please is a humble plea of a young Black boy praying to God Almighty for help, forgiveness, mercy, grace, direction, protection and even favor. The challenge with Black males is that need for guidiance is necessary in their neighborhoods and others. There is a target on their backs, fronts, bottoms, tops and every side from all levels of society. The origin has its roots in slavery and the fight for Black males to fit, to belong, to be equal to other races, has been constant. I want my paintings to embody a spirituality and to share that a force greater than ourselves can guide us, if we submit to it.

This painting shows the boy looking up rather than down to emphasize his direct contact with God and his heart felt plea. You can almost see tears in his eyes to show his sincerity and humility. I used white to surround him and on his shirt to highlight his innocence and desire to be heard from God. The drips of whites serves as an answer from Heaven that God is listening and that he may be granted the favor that he has requested.
