ICONS & Images
Artist: Curtis Derall Ferguson
Dates: September 3rd – October 30th, 2022
Artist Reception: September 24th, 5-8pm
About the show:
This show entitled “ICONS and Images” is a celebration of a few famous personalities that have positively impacted my life. The “Images” are thought provoking experiences that express various feeling and emotions through composition, color, brush stroke and color application using spontaneous realism to convey these messages. The goal is to positively portray Black children in a more favorable light than the media or society as whole does. I want to attempt to restore their humanity “IF” they ever really had it in the first place with simple behaviors and interactions on canvas.
Artist bio:
“I am an award winning professional artist and educator who was born in Flint, Michigan and graduated high school from Texas Senior High School in Texarkana, Texas. My Bachelors of Science in Education (BSE) degree in Art Education/Graphic Design is from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and my Masters of Education (ME) degree is from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. While in college I took advantage of an Art Study Tour to New York City’s SoHo community to further his experience and abilities in the visual fine arts. He was sponsored by an Italian artist named Impeclia for the duration of his stay. My name is Curtis Derall Ferguson.
My wife and I are newly wed. We have been married for 21 year and are going for forever. We have five children ranging from age 32 to 9 years old. Our home is located in Cedar Hill, Texas and we share it with an amazing Golden Doodle named Jax.
Youth creativity and originality has been my focus for over 32 years in the public school systems. I have been considered a child advocate, male mentor, community activist and educator. These responsibilities are apparent in my artwork.”
